
Meeting Minutes: January 20, 2007
Members Present: Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap (facilitator
& notes), Hannah Clapsadle, Jared Wilken, David Cobb, Ed Light,
Heidi Calton (came late, so Kaitlin facilitated)
Guests: Clem Freeman (a registered Green but
this is his first meeting)
1. Announcements
• Ed suggested folks check out the website www.californiaskywatch.com
• January 27, 7:00pm-10pm, Wobblies Benefit done through
the Placebo, at the INK People, benefit to help local barristas
organize.
• One of Heidi’s friends is starting a reptile enthusiasts
clubs, meetings will probably be the 2nd Saturday of the month
at the Adorni Center. They are in the planning stages. If anyone
wants to get involved they should contact Heidi.
• David has been subbing for Rob Amerman the host of Thursday
Night Talk, David will likely be hosting again on Feb 8th, interviewing
Kathy Marshall, talking about the Vagina Monologues. 7:30pm on
KHSU.
2. Adoption of December Meeting Minutes
Minutes approved with unanimous consensus.
3. Treasurer’s Report
We have $623.65 in the account. Heidi and Hannah will coordinate
adding Hannah Treasurer as signer on the account before our next
meeting.
4. County Council Report
• Jared told the county about the “Show Your Love”
flyers so they can distribute them in other areas – they
liked the idea.
• Discussed St. Patrick’s event – committee
was assigned to work on this, Heidi would like to join this committee.
• Moving forward on fundraising.
• Debrief on Antonia Juhasz event that was very successful.
5. Old Business
A. Eureka Greens Website
• Xandra is not being responsive about sharing the passwords
and access to EurekaGreens.org. Clem offered to help Kaitlin contact
the website hosting company and see how we can get the information.
Proposal to give Kaitlin and Clem the authority to contact the
company, send an official letter to the company or Xandra and
contact the County Greens to ask for assistance if necessary.
Proposal approved by unanimous consensus. They will report on
this at the next meeting.
B. Events
• Valentine’s Day Outreach Posters: Kaitlin made a
set of 4 different posters. They say “Show your love for
<the Earth> <Democracy> <Peace> <Justice>
by registering Green!” She tracked the language from the
national 10 Key values. We will start distributing on Feb 1. Jared
will do Old Town. Clem will do Henderson Center. Hannah will do
Myrtletown. David will do South Eureka.
• St. Patrick’s Day: We are moving forward on a St.
Patrick’s Day mixer for Greens on Sat March 17. Contact
Kaitlin at kaitlin@riseup.net or 362-0626 if you want to get involved.
6. New Business
A. Admin
• Media committee. Heidi as Chair and Kaitlin as Secretary
will draft press releases and otherwise act as official spokespersons
for the Eureka Greens. Proposal approved by unanimous consensus.
B. Issues – Iraq Occupation
• January 27th Local action to correspond with the national
day of action against the war:
o 11am, demonstration at Mike Thompson’s office on 3rd
St in Eureka. (Thompson originally voted against the Iraq invasion
however he has consistently voted in support of funding the
Iraq occupation)
o 11:30am - dove canopy and moment of silence.
o Noon at Courthouse, belling ringing from Buddhist Peace Fellowship.
o Table will be at the courthouse to send letters to your reps.
• Eureka Peace Event is scheduled for March 17th. Communities
for Peace has been meeting and will either be doing a Peace March
or an event this year. Jared will stay in contact with them and
keep us posted about how we can help, and how we can coordinate
our St. Patrick’s event with this event (which will likely
be the same day).
• Heidi will bring her iguana to the peace march and wear
a tshirt that says “Another Iguana for Peace.”
• Note: Nancy Pelosi announced yesterday that she won’t
allow a motion to de-fund the troops to reach the floor!
7. Next Meeting
