Eureka Greens Announce Endorsements

10/18/2006, Eureka Reporter

The Eureka Greens, a chapter of the Green Party of Humboldt County, announced their endorsements for the November election Tuesday, supporting Propositions 84, 87 and 89.

“Proposition 84 is an important measure to protect our waterways and parks, and Prop. 87 is crucial to developing alternative energy sources and solutions to the environmental and social problems caused by global warming,” Eureka Greens Chairperson Heidi Calton stated in a news release. “Proposition 89 is a crucial measure to regain integrity in the electoral process.”

The group also announced its opposition to Prop. 85, the parental notification measure, and Prop. 90.

“Prop. 90 is a radical measure that will take away our collective right to local control over our communities,” Calton said. “Local government needs the ability to make zoning laws to protect the health and well-being of our communities.”

Eureka Greens have also endorsed Eureka Mayor Peter La Vallee and 1st, 3rd and 5th Ward City Council candidates Larry Glass, Ron Kuhnel and Nancy Abrams.

The chapter meets on the third Saturday of every month at 3:30 p.m. at Has Beans Internet Cafe, 738 2nd St., Eureka.
